The J.T. & E.J. Crumbaugh Library Genealogy Section was started in the fall of 1977. With the help of the
community this section has grown to include over 400 local family histories for those interested in tracing their roots.
Our Genealogy Section at Crumbaugh Library features many aids to researchers.
Websites that can be used on the public computers at the library:
- ancestoryclassroom.com: databases of documents to include census, death, marriage, birth, legal documents, photos, etc.
- fold3.com: site dedicated to military records
- newspapers.com: contains over 88,000 newspapers scanned in and searchable dating back to the 1700’s.

- The LeRoy Journal/Leader on microfilm starting in the early 1900’s
- LeRoy High School yearbooks back to 1916, with alumni lists as far back as 1878 to present
- We have cemetery records for our local cemeteries of Oak Grove, Old Oak Grove and Gilmore. We can assist you in finding a grave in these cemeteries.
- Our Genealogy Sections houses over 70 scrapbooks prepared by staff, the historical society and community volunteers. These scrapbooks cover a huge variety of LeRoy area history: including, people, businesses, and schools.
- We have several City directories from 1895 to 2005
- Patrons have access to three websites on computers in the library to find legal documents, military records and newspapers dating back to the 1700’s. We encourage you to contact us prior to any visit to best help your research needs
